H. Teaching and Learning Process

1. Beginning ( 10 minutes)

T: Good morning girls and boys!

S: Good morning Mom!

T: OK, students. Let’s pray together before the lesson begins.

S: Yes, Mom. (After praying together, the teacher continues opening the lesson).

T: Well, did you have a good weekend?

S: Yes, I did.

T: OK. Is there anybody absent today?

S: Yes, Amir is absent today.

T: OK. Is there anybody knowing where he is.

S: He is sick.

T: Oh, I am sorry to hear that. OK, students. Can someone clean the board please?

S: Yes, I can.

T: Alright. Now, I want you study something new

a. Remind the students of the concepts of an ecosystem, its biotic and abiotic components and interaction among the components

b. Motivate students by asking them to predict the effect of changes in a certain component on the other components of an ecosystem. For example, what will happen to the fish, if the water in a pond ecosystem runs out?.

2. Main Activities ( 60 minutes)

a. The teacher explains the interaction patterns in a community.

b. The teacher divides the class into groups of four or five and assigns each group to discuss the interaction patterns by using Students’ Book pages 275 – 279. Students complete the worksheet no. 7.11 on page 159.

c. Each group presents us findings and let the other groups respond to it

d. Every student writes his or her conclusion based on the presentation of all groups.

Application:

Explain how can the interaction between an orchid and a tree change from commensalisms to parasitism!

3. Closing (10 minutes)

a. The teacher clarifies the students’ misconception.

b. The teacher gives the students an enrichment task, that is to write a report based on their observation results.

(OK. I think it is enough for today, if you have problems feel free to see me)

I. Assessment

a. Technique of assessment: Written Test

b. Instrument: Essay

Test:

1. What is mean symbiosis?

2. Explain the meaning of:

a. mutualism symbiosis.

b. commensalisms symbiosis.

c. parasitism

d. predation

3. Write down the type of interaction for following pairs of organisms:

a. Ants live on trees that provide food for them.

b. Hepatitis virus living in thee liver cause hepatitis disease.

c. Lice living on the back of a livestock suck the livestocks’ blood.

Answer Key:

1. Symbiosis is an interaction that occurs between two different species living together in an ecosystem.

2. a. Mutualism is an interaction between two different species that live in a community and help each other, both organisms get benefits in this interaction.

b. Commensalisms is an interaction between two organisms living in a community, one organism gets benefit and the other doesn’t suffer from any loss.

c. Parasitism is an interaction between two organisms in which one organism gets some advantages and the other gets disadvantages.

d. Predation is an interaction in a community in which one organism becomes a predator and see the other is prey.

3. a. Mutualism

b. Parasitism

c. Parasitism
